keratinocyte A cell which is found in our skin. It is the major constituent of the epidermis. In their process of maturation keratinocytes die and eventually become the horny protective layer of our skin.
 
keratinous (Adj)consisting of keratin, a protein which is the primary constituent of hair, nails, skin, and animal horns; horny
 
keratoacanthoma A rapidly growing squamous tumor which usually occurs on sun-exposed skin. Its tissue is similar to that of a squamous cell carcinoma but, contrary to this type of tumor, keratoakanthoma may regress spontaneously. The disease affects almost only whites and most often men.
