lacuna lacuna (lat.), pl.: lacunae gap, interstice, cavity

leukoplakia A white patch on mucous membranes. It may occur due to mechanical friction, irritants, and as a precancerous lesion.
 
lumen lumen (lat.), pl.: lumina cavity, glade
 
lupus vulgaris Lupus (lat.) means wolf, in a broader sense something that devours. It is a tuberculosis of the skin which can be very disfiguring due to its destructive skin lesions. Today it is rather rare in Western countries. The disease is chronic and can appear at any age. Nowadays there are several treatments available and even advanced lupus vulgaris has a good chance of being cured.
 
lymphatic system This term sums up the tissues and organs which produce and store cells that fight infection (lymphatic cells) as well as the channels that carry lymph.
